DC POWER FC POST-MATCH QUOTES
Head Coach Omid Namazi
Q: You’ve talked about creating scoring chances, but defense felt like the story today. How would you rate your defense, both with the clean sheet and keeping Dallas out of dangerous positions in a tight game?
A: “We talked specifically about not having a clean sheet all year and needing to make sure we’re solid defensively. That’s all three lines, not just the back line. All three lines got behind the ball and defended with everything they had. If you keep a clean sheet, you’re always in the game. You can come away with a point, or if you score a goal like we did, and it was a great goal, you come away with three points. That’s how you start building confidence. It’s the old cliché: defense wins championships. We need to defend well first, and then push the ball forward and create chances. I thought we still created some. In the final third, we have to be a little better at completing that last pass so those opportunities don’t go to waste.”
Q: You have a busy stretch coming up because of earlier rescheduling. How do you prepare the team and keep everyone healthy through a tighter schedule?
A: “That’s a challenge. So many games in such a short period is going to be difficult. It’s all about recovery, while also working on the tactical points we need for the next game, because they come up fast. We play in Tampa next weekend. The next couple of days are about recovery, then a couple of days getting back into it, and then figuring out how we approach Tampa. We take it one game at a time.”
Goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti
Q: This win puts you three points ahead of Dallas and level with Lexington above the playoff line, with five games left in quick succession. How do you keep the playoffs in view while staying focused one game at a time?
A: “This team is so hungry, and you’ve seen that in every game, whether we’ve gotten results or not. It’s really about that last push. We talk a lot about mentality, and I think that showed today. It’s about whether we can bag three points every time we step on the field. We’re making that push, but we’re doing it game by game. It won’t happen overnight. Whether it’s pulling out a late point on the road or coming out strong and dictating the tempo, it’s never easy in this league. So it’s a one-game-at-a-time mentality, carried through the rest of the season because of how hungry we are to make a playoff run.”
Midfielder Emily Colton
Q: You have some bruising on your arm, a product of the victory. Describe the grit the team showed. It’s not often you’ve held a lead like this and kept a clean sheet. What does that say about how this team has improved?
A: “There was so much grit in that game, from front to back. The shutout shows how much grit we have. Katie made some amazing saves, and our back line, midfield, and front line all gave 100 percent. Every single person showed grit, whether they came into the game or not. That’s what it takes every time. It’s definitely an improvement from the start of the season, and I think we’re going to keep going up from here.”
