Match Recap
DC Power FC earned a resounding 4-1 win on the road against Brooklyn FC in their
second match of the 2026 Gainbridge Super League Fall Season. After falling short
in their home opener, DC bounced back immediately with a dominant showing in
New York, maintaining their positive form on the road into this new season.
DC Power took the lead straight out of the gate, with two goals in the first ten
minutes from midfielder Emma Jaskaniec and forward Loza Abera. After a quick
give and go on the right side, Kayla Colbert played a low cross to Jaskaniec for the
first goal in the in the sixth minute. Two minutes later, midfielder Abby Boyan
regained possession and played in Abera at the top of the box, who buried a curling
effort into the top right corner. DC kept their forward momentum, almost finding
the third when forward Tatum Thomason hit the post in the ninth minute.
Colbert was brought down in the box in the 59th minute, earning her side their first
penalty of the night which was converted by substitute, Tyler Lussi.
In the 75th minute, Brooklyn midfielder Tziarra King hit the cross bar with a shot from the top
of the box and defender Jordan Thompson placed in the rebound after DC were
unable to clear. A handball by Brooklyn defender Shin Na-Yeong in the 81st
minute gave Power their second penalty of the night. Abera placed the ball in the bottom
right corner to wrap up the game for DC and earn her first brace of the season.
After their first win of the season, Power FC are currently fourth in the Gainbridge
Super League standings. This week, they will look to continue their form on the
road and find another win against third place and defending champions, Lexington
SC, on Satuday, August 29th.
Player Notes
Defender Justina Gaynor played a strong game in the back, winning 9 duels and
100% of her tackles in 90 minutes.
Midfielder Emma Jaskaniec scored DC Power’s first goal of the season. She had
a team high 10 successful passes in the final third in 67 minutes.
Forward Loza Abera led the attack for DC, scoring a brace and playing a full 90
minutes. She was tied as the second highest goalscorer last season with seven
goals.

A: “After analyzing our opponent Brooklyn, we felt like we could use our speed on the flanks
with Kayla Colbert and Tatum Thomason. Both players are extremely rapid and with their
fullbacks not being as fast, we decided to take advantage of that and isolate them in the 1v1’s.
That was our gameplan going into the match and the girls executed it to perfection.”

A:” I think we’re still continuing to build, but I’ve been really impressed with how quickly this
group has come together. There was a lot of turnover, but there’s a lot of quality and a lot of
really good personalities in this team. I think every game we’re getting more comfortable with
each other and understanding what we can do as a group. We know there are a lot of strong
teams in this league, but I think we have the quality to compete with anyone, and we’re really
excited about where we can go as the season continues.”
