Match Recap
DC Power FC took all three points at home with a 2-1 win over reigning Gainbridge Super League champions Lexington SC in their 11th match of the Fall 2026 season. Riding the momentum of their stoppage-time winner in Tampa Bay, DC have now won three straight and handed the defending champs a statement defeat.
Power struck first in the 18th minute. Emma Jaskaniec slipped the ball to Loza Abera, who fired a right-footed shot from the left side of the box into the bottom left corner for her fifth goal of the season. Abera is now DC Power’s all time leading goalscorer with 17 goals. Lexington pushed for a response, but Katie Cappelletti stood tall in goal, denying Catherine Barry in the 31st minute and Alyssa Bourgeois just before the break to send DC into halftime with the lead.
Lexington came out pressing after the restart, but Cappelletti delivered in the 49th minute with a point-blank stop on Barry and again on a long-range effort from Hannah White in the 76th. As the game ran towards the end, DC began pushing back, with shots coming from Susanna Fitch and Sydney Cummings. In the first minute of stoppage time, Emily Colton put the game away, finishing a left-footed strike from the center of the box into the top right corner. Barry pulled one back for Lexington a minute later with a shot from outside the box, but Power saw out the final whistle to secure the win.
With their sixth win of the season, DC Power hold second place with 20 points in the Super League standings, while Lexington remain in fourth. DC Power will look to make it four in a row when they host Brooklyn FC in their final home match of the regular season on Wednesday, November 11 at 7 p.m.

DC POWER FC POST-MATCH QUOTES
Head Coach Omid Namazi
Q: Congrats on the win, your third straight. Take me through the game, especially those last few minutes, when it looked like the win was locked up and then you had to sweat it out.
A: “Defensively, we’ve reached a point where everybody understands how we play. When we lose the ball, we press. If we’re facing a goal kick or defending in the flow of play, we drop into our mid block or low block, stay compact, take away the middle of the field and force everything wide. What we did well tonight was limit crosses into the box. That took away a lot of their strength, because with their height and ability in the air, they’re a dangerous team. We minimized their chances, and when our chances came, we took them. Emily’s second goal took some of the pressure off. Then we made an error and gave them a goal, but overall we have to be happy with three points. I think we have one foot in the door for the playoffs, but we’re not done. We have to keep winning. We want to secure a home playoff game.”
Q: How does it feel that this season you can grind out wins even when you don’t play your best?
A: “It’s a sign of resilience. The whole squad is mentally tougher. They don’t let little mistakes bother them. They keep grinding, and that’s what we’ve been doing. Look at the last three home games. The win against Fort Lauderdale was a decent performance, especially in the second half. But in our last home game and in this one, I didn’t think our performance on the ball was very good. Defensively, though, we got a shutout last time here and nearly another one tonight, and that’s credit to the players. They’re willing to defend with everything they’ve got: blocking shots, sliding in, winning tackles. We saw a lot of that tonight, and it was good to see.”
Forward Loza Abera
Q: Congrats on your goal. Your confidence seems to build every time you play, right down to your celebration tonight. How have you felt about your play as the season has gone on?
A: “Thank you. We’ve kept getting good results, I’m playing well and gaining confidence, and I have great teammates. That’s where my confidence comes from. Scoring goals makes me even more confident, and I want to keep scoring and give 100 percent for this team.”
Midfielder Emily Colton
Q: This is the team’s third straight win. Last year the effort was there but the results sometimes fell short. What’s been the catalyst this year for winning games even when you don’t play your best?
A: “It’s about grit and the willingness to fight and win. In a lot of our games, we go up and have to hold on, and that’s where the fight comes in. It’s so hard to hold on to 1-0 games, but that shows the team that we are. In the past, we’d let a goal in or concede first. Now we’re scoring first and keeping it that way, and that’s a testament to how we’re growing as a team. We keep building on it game after game. I don’t know if we’ve ever won three in a row before, so it’s a huge confidence boost. We’re staying humble, taking it game by game, knowing we can beat anyone on any day, and fighting for each other.”
