DC Power FC Post-Match Quotes
Interim Head Coach Phil Nana
On Gianna Gourley’s opening second half goal and Power FC’s ability to generate an opportunity almost immediately…
“Going into the half we saw some spaces we knew we could exploit,” Nana said. “We figured out some things they were doing out of possession. We saw that space and knew it was something we couldn’t fix on the field. However, we fixed that in the locker room and were able to execute resulting in a goal. Great cross by Sue and a very good finish by Gianna.”
On the match result being a step in the right direction for Power FC…
“It’s always a positive when you can get a point on the road,” Nana said. “Especially in Fort Lauderdale. I have a lot of respect for Tyrone and the things he’s able to do. Especially tactically, I think he’s one of the best in the league. To come out and go toe-to-toe with him boats well for the team. Also, it gives us some confidence. It’s been a tough week so for the girls to bounce back after a tough loss against Carolina, it’s nothing but positive.”
On Gianna Gourley’s performance against Fort Lauderdale United FC…
“I see grit in Gianna,” Nana said. “We went two games without scoring a goal and she takes that hard on her. She’s relentless, she keeps going and she keeps fighting. At training she wants more shots and wants to push more. She did very well, she was elated and it was a goal we needed that gave us all confidence.”
Forward Gianna Gourley
On her 46th-minute goal to put Power FC ahead…
“Going into halftime we felt good, had high energy and were creating good chances,” Gourley said. “We brought that energy into the second half and scored quickly. I thought Sue did a great job and had a lot of confidence to take that player on. She did all the work and I made my run inside, did a floater and she placed the ball perfectly.”
On how it felt to notch a goal against her former club…
“Every goal’s the same and every game’s the same,” Gourley said. “It feels nice to come back, see everyone and put the ball in the back of the net. It’s positive steps and we keep on going.”
On what the team needs to improve upon ahead of its match against Tampa Bay Sun FC…
“We go in bouts where we’re not connecting simple passes or get chaotic on the ball,” Gourley said. “I thought we did better today and played for the most part a full 90 minutes. I think staying locked in, creating more chances and just being confident. That confidence goes a long way.”
