DC Power Football Club Post-Match Quotes
Head Coach Omid Namazi
On Power FC’s overall performance against Lexington SC…
“We didn’t create enough and that’s because we were on our heels a lot defending deep in our half and it was hard to get out and create opportunities,” Namazi said. “The good news is that we’re still undefeated. We need to build on this and get better in our possession and controlling the tempo of the game which I felt we didn’t do a good job of tonight.”
On what the team expectations are next week against Brooklyn FC…
“Better connectivity within our team in terms of possession and passing the ball and then being more aggressive against the ball,” Namazi said. “That’s something that we absolutely have to get better at or it’s going to be a long season. That’s the message that’s been given and hopefully we get better back home against Brooklyn.”
On Dasia Torbert’s performance in her professional debut…
“For her first game as a pro, I thought she did a good job,” Namazi said. “She’s got a high ceiling. She’s going to get better and we will see a lot more of her.”
Defender Sydney Cummings
On how the club adjusted against Lexington SC’s high press during the first half…
“They had a high line but they weren’t applying too much pressure,” Cummings said. “We were able to break them down a couple times and then it was sometimes sloppy giveaways on our end. It was just a matter of getting in those pockets between those lines and finding ways to break and go forward. We had good moments of that and others where we were almost there.”
On what needs to be improved upon to defeat Brooklyn FC…
“We were better today in possession but now it’s possessing up the field to then covert,” Cummings said. “We have to put away our opportunities. We got lucky a couple of times; they got a couple good looks they did not put away. It easily could have been a different score line. Going into this week of training, it will be a lot about duels and winning the midfield. Just a matter of finding that chemistry again so that can be our game plan moving forward.”
Goalkeeper Morgan Aquino
On how the team defended against Lexington SC…
“It was good and it was tough,” Aquino said. “I think that we defended well and we’re happy we got the result.”
