DC Power Football Club Post-Match Quotes
Head Coach Omid Namazi
On the message to fans following the home opener…
“A team that maybe didn’t have a lot of success last year coming out of the game, now we’re undefeated in two games,” Namazi said. “That’s a great sign. As I mentioned to the players last week, the grit and the determination will get us far. Now, can we be better with and against the ball. We have to go back to training and keep on improving.”
On the crowd and atmosphere at Audi Field…
“Any time you have people in the stands in numbers and cheering for the team, I know the players take a lot out of that, and it motivates them,” Namazi said. “I hope we get even more people in the stands. As we build this team, become a winner and we’re consistent in our play, I think you’ll see more people come to our games. They’ll be our twelfth player.”
Defender Sydney Cummings
On her first experience playing at Audi Field and competing against her former club…
“Audi’s incredible so I was really excited to play here at home instead of having to travel here,” Cummings said. “It’s such a nice field. My mentality going into today was that it’s any other game. My mentality was that this is a must win for us. Being able to climb back from a deficit twice now shows a lot of grit from this team and I’m really proud of that.”
On what motivated the club to fight back heading into the second half…
“To concede that close to half time is deflating so our mentality was to get to halftime to reset and regroup,” Cummings said. “When we got into the locker room at halftime it was really positive in saying that we had them for the first thirty minutes and they worked their way into the game. We just have to come out the same way we did before. Tactically, making some adjustments helped.”
Midfielder Emily Colton
On her first home opener…
“Last season was amazing but this was better than I ever experienced,” Emily Colton said. “The crowd and the noise I think it helped us so much. The equalizer felt like it was the game winning goal. The fans helped so much, and it was an amazing environment.”
On what to focus on ahead of Power FC’s upcoming match against Lexington SC…
“We’ll go back to the drawing board and see what we did well and what we didn’t do well,” Colton said. “It’s only up from here. There are tactical changes we can make but we showed so much grit as a team tonight.”
